Gender Diaries

This is an era of women shattering the glass ceiling and men trying to “cope” with their “over” successful wives.

But while the typical stereotype has diluted a bit, scratch the surface and we are where we were about a decade ago.

The society is against radical change. People are secure in their traditional comfort zones. They are comfortable with the roles assigned to them.

The media often tries to create a shift in attitude. The best example is the latest Bollywood hit Ki & Ka.

But I have doubts whether the society will support a man who leaves his job and decides to become a house-husband. I think these attempts are rather superficial.

There might be a single person in thousands who is prepared for the “new woman.”

Most of them are “good friends” with the career-oriented women but to tie the knot, they seek a traditional woman who can cook and keep the mother-in-law happy.

Similarly, even women prefer strong and dominating men as against today’s “metrosexual” male.

No woman wants a man who is over-sensitive and cares more for the kitchen than his career graph.

So a woman who doesn’t cook well is still not deemed a homemaker and an overly emotional man is not considered man enough.

At the end of the day, I keep asking to myself, Is it really time for the superwoman to take in?
